27.05.08 Touring life
Over the last 5 months, I've been touring Europe and USA with the
Faroese artist, Teitur,
both as a support act, as well as playing in his 6-piece band. This
has been a great time for me, both as a musician and human being.
I've had the opportunity to play my music to many good people; some
who I got to know. I have made new friends (Old Springs Pike, Tina
Dico, Jessie Baylin..) and written new songs. It has been very inspiring
to be on the road with a great band like Teitur's.
Thank you Teitur.

11.04.2008 In the studio
I'm in the studio these days, mixing my album. Well actually I'm not
so much mixing it as Valgeir Sigurdsson is doing it, at his Greenhouse
Studios in Reykjavik. The album will be my pride and joy. it has been
such a pleasure to make it.
Planned release is for September. Helgi |

Hi everyone.
Just wanted to share some stuff with you. Somehow these last days
of the year seem to be good for looking back at thing that have
happend, are happening and to look forward at things about to happen.
(Some things I write here are more for showing off, but some things
you might find interesting).
I'm in Iceland now, finishing the last songs for my upcoming album,
if all goes well I will finish this work in January. A release would
follow late March or April.
Lots of things have been happening over the last couple of months.
I've moved back to Iceland, after some 8 years in Austria. It's
great to be back here, gives me new strength. (It's funny though,
I see my icelandic friends less than when i lived abroad and visited
occasionally, how strange is that?)
Over the next half a year I will travel a lot and give concerts.
A great musician and a good friend, has asked me to come along on
the road, both as an openening act (solo), as well as playing in
his band. These concerts will be all over Europe and the US from
mid February through May. In February I will likely also be on stage
with the Icelandic musician Valgeir Sigurdsson and Sam Amidon on
their touring in Scandinavia.
I have some bigger shows in Vienna (Konzerthaus 28.2) and Graz
(Orpheum 29.2) this February, with my band; featuring the great
trumpet player, Lorenz Raab.
Currently I'm writing music for Contemporary Dance; it's new work
by choreographer Johann Lindell (SE) for the Royal Theater in Copenhagen.
It has long been a dream of mine to write music for dance, so this
is a good opportunity.
Over the last 3 months I have been cowriting and recording with
the Viennese Producer-Duo Dzihan & Kamien for their forthcoming
album (release planned for 2008). They decided to have me sing many
of their new songs and I'm thrilled to be a part of it. I'll say
no more, but stay tuned.
That's enogh for now. Check out my space here, I'll have some new
music for you the hear soon. I wish you all the best.
Warmest,
Helgi

| 28.10.06 For the last few days, Helgi
has been with his band in the studio working on new material. |
20.09.06 During his stay in Iceland
this August Helgi recorded a new song, September. It was
rehearsed and recorded at the Sigur Rós studio - sundlaugin,
in Mosfellsbaer. Helgi had some of Icelands finest musicians to come
along and play: Sigtryggur Baldursson, the former
drummer of the Sugarcubes, Pétur Ben, reykjavik's
next star/singer/songwriter playing guitar and Kjartan Sveinsson
from sigur rós, playing bass.
The song is, in a subtle way, a protest to the ongoing destruction
of Icelandic nature through huge dam projects. One of these projects,
Karahnjukavirkjun, will start overfloating land this September. 57
squarekilometers (That's 57 million squaremeters) of unspoiled nature
will disappear, and over one hundred waterfalls will be destroyed.
You can listen to September on Helgi's
Myspace Profile

16.09.06 Pétur Ben
a long time friend and collaborator of Helgi has released his first
solo album, Wine for my Weakness. This talented musician
has been making people wait quite a while for his own work, allthough
he's been known as Mugisons right hand, but this year things seems
to be changing. Shortly after the release of the solo album, a new
icelandic film Children was released. Pétur wrote
the score for the film, and you can hear Helgi Jonsson playing his
trombone all over the place.

| 05.06.06 Georg Hartwig, the producer

their Myspace
